California Trip - Monterey ... part one

This is really the beginning of the blog below and since I accidentally deleted my first picture, this now becomes the middle section of the Monterey blog. What a lovely, lovely place! If the cost of living wasn’t so high I could live here year round.

Let me tell you about the hills of Monterey. For a flat-lander it was an adjustment, whenever we went anywhere it was either uphill or downhill. It didn’t take long though for Caleb to inform me you don’t lock your knees going downhill. Once I figured this out and kept my knees slightly bent I began enjoying the hiking up and down.

As Caleb informed us, fog is normal for much of the year. The day of graduation tho was a beautifully clear day that morning and made for some beautiful pictures across Monterey Bay from Soldier's Field.


Tho the Bays remained clear, the ocean was covered in fog as we discovered when we took the 17-mile drive along the coast. Even so each area had a beauty all it's own.

We could not get enough of the water and Jenn snapped picture after picture. Good thing she has a digital camera! Many of these pictures are hers. The hardest part was narrowing my choices down to these few to share with you.

The colors were just incrediable. Amazing how much power behind / under the water even in a calm sea. It's amazing the rocks are still around. What stories they must have to tell. Makes me think of the verse where Jesus said if we quiet the praise of children, then the rocks would cry out His praise. What an awesome God we have who has created such beauty and is in control of all these forces.




















Rich and I posed for a picture at the turnout to view the "Tree in the Rock". The band of fog hidding the mountains across Carmel Bay was intriguing. It is the constant fog that gives the vegetation the rich color and depth.
